Institute scientists conducted a training course on monitoring hepatotropic viruses in Burundi

On July 2-5, 2024, at the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Burundi, Dr. Elena Esaulenko, head, laboratory of viral hepatitis of the St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute, and Dr. Vsevolod Skvoroda, junior researcher at the laboratory, conducted a training course “Improving serological and molecular genetic monitoring of hepatotrotropic viruses in Burundi."

The approved course program was fully completed. The experts received theoretical knowledge and practical skills (isolating nucleic acids from clinical samples, conducting ELISA and PCR  tests) for independent and joint research.

The theoretical part included a series of lectures: “Viral hepatitis: burden of illness, pathogens and sources, surveillance”, “Parenteral hepatitis: classifications, epidemiology, detection”, “Hepatitis C: from pathogen identification to disease diagnosis and treatment”, “Hepatitis B: hepatitis B virus, markers at various stages of the infectious process and therapy”, “Hepatitis B: epidemiology, detection in  blood samples”, “Hepatitis B virus: options and methods of the identification”, “Enteral hepatitis: anthroponoses and zoonoses”, “Molecular genetic diagnostic оf viral hepatitis -capabilities at the present stage”, “Phylogenetic analysis, why is it needed?”, “Identification of isolated pathogens, various variants of phylogenetic trees”.
