Expert of Saint-Petersburg Pasteur Institute have carried out scientific and practical research in the Republic of Venezuela


On June 3 -12, 2024, Dr. Vladimir Dedkov, Deputy Director for Research, Dr. Anna Gladkikh, Head, Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Monitoring, and Dr. Dmitry Polev, Head, Metagenomic Research Group carried out  at the Rafael Rangel National Institute of Hygiene (INHRR, Ministry of People's Power for Health Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Caracas) the scientific and practical research within the framework of a bilateral agreement on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population of Venezuela.

Russian scientists trained Venezuelan experts to use the Russian prototype test system for detecting the Venezuelan fever virus in patient blood serum samples, and also compared the research results with the previously applied test system. Scientists from the Rafael Rangel Institute of Hygiene were trained in whole-genome sequencing methods on the Oxford Nanopore platform.

It was followed by the discussion on data obtained and prospects for further work. The further plans for Venezuelan experts training in methods of whole-genome sequencing and data analysis we discussed.
