«Phylogenomics» co-edited by Igor Mokrousov, was published by Elsevier

Academic Press (Elsevier) has just published a book “Phylogenomics. Foundations, Methods, and Pathogen Analysis”, co-edited by Igor Mokrousov. The book covers a wide range of topics and chapters in the field of phylogenetics and phylogenomics, from basic concepts to the specialized papers dealing with methodologies and the most relevant pathogenic microorganisms.

The authors of 24 chapters are leading international experts who represent 14 countries of Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Spain, UK) and Asia (China, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Thailand), as well as USA and South Africa.

Phylogenomics has naturally emerged as an amalgamation of phylogenetics, genomics, and bioinformatics. This interdisciplinary approach has allowed for a new level of discrimination and insight within the tree of life, extending from within-host microevolution of the pathogens to higher taxonomic units. The published volume primarily focuses on medically significant bacteria and viruses. An update on other relevant organisms as well as the use of artificial intelligence will follow in further editions.

“An insightful hypothesis-making requires a broad knowledge that may become a source of inspiration. It is my strong belief that an inspiration and imagination are no less crucial for the advancement of science than technologies”, says Igor Mokrousov.
